The mouse is much ignored but you'd be amazed how much of a difference a good one can make, and this offering from Microsoft is the Rolls-Royce of mice. Not only is it comfortable to hold, with a soft-touch finish and sculpted lines that make it feel as if it were tailored to fit, but it also boasts a host of useful features. The best of these is its rechargeable battery, which you can top up by simply dropping it onto the docking cradle. Vista users will appreciate the ability to switch between apps simply by rocking the scroll wheel. The price is a sticking point, though. If you want the best, you have to pay for it. But in this case, we think £45 is too much. By Jonathan Bray
