AMD fails to win EC access to Intel documents
11:17AM, Monday 11th October 2004
AMD has failed in it's latest attempt to force Intel to hand over documents to European Commissioners. A US Federal judge refused AMD's request because, the European Commissioners had not actually asked for the documents.
The ruling follows a long running dispute between AMD and Intel which ended this summer in the Supreme Court. The case goes back to 2001 when AMD complained to the European Commission that Intel was using its muscle to force OEMs not to use AMD parts. In June of this year, the Supreme Court ruled that Intel documents and emails could be released to the European Commission investigators - if they asked. They did not and AMD asked for the documents to be released anyway.
AMD is now considering whether to appeal the judge's ruling.
