The Globetrotter is based on the increasingly popular LiveCD idea, where the operating system is stored on a CD that can be booted from on any machine.
However, with Globetrotter, you don't need to carry a separate USB memory stick on which to store your files - your entire system is contained within the FA Porsche-designed 40GB hard drive from LaCie.

Globetrotter contains the Mandrake 10 Linux-based operating system with a range of applications: from OpenOffice and Evolution business software to CD burning, web browsing, image editing and more.
To use the drive, you simply set the host system to boot from USB first and reboot the computer.
It also includes a mini-CD for use with systems that don't boot from USB and a month's free membership to the Mandrakeclub and Mandrakeonline communities.
The Globetrotter costs 199 Euros - about £134 - from the Mandrake website.
As an operating system it only works on PCs, but will operate as a storage device on other USB supporting hardware.
