Amtrak delivered parcels for a number for PC retailers including BT-owned Dabs.com and Microdirect, and had a contract to carry mail between Government departments.
Despite this the company has fallen foul of rising fuel prices and falling consumer demand, forcing it into administration only 20 months after being purchased by Netfold Ltd.
Visitors to the company website are currently being greeted with the message: "Netfold Limited t/a Amtrak went into administration on 22 August 2008 and has ceased trading. Should you have any parcel collection or delivery requirements, you may contact Business Post Limited, which will be happy to provide an alternative service."
A BT spokesperson told PC Pro that the impact on customers will be minimal. "The reality is that Amtrak is just one of the suppliers Dabs.com uses, and we have plans in place to send deliveries through an alternative service called Business Post. Customers won't be affected. Deliveries will continue as normal."
