Yahoo discussing music deal
8:48AM, Friday 25th January 2008
Yahoo is eyeing a move into the music business, according to reports.
The search company is reportedly in talks with major music labels to offer an ad-supported music service.
Yahoo is thought to be hammering out a deal to either sell unprotected MP3s or offer them through a streaming service.
The reports suggest Yahoo wants to launch its service this year.
The company will enter a market place dominated by iTunes and packed with strong competitors such as Amazon which recently became the first retailer to offer DRM-free tracks from all four major record labels.
Last.fm, the online radio site, has also signed deals with the record labels to offer an ad-support streaming service.
Yahoo was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
