Having overturned Microsoft's monopoly - a feat many thought impossible - Firefox is without doubt the web browser of the moment. And now with the release of Firefox 3, the open-source browser is poised to gain even more ground on Internet Explorer.

In an exclusive interview with PC Pro last year, Mozilla Europe president Tristan Nitot claimed the open-source developers had "caught Microsoft asleep at the wheel". Now there's a genuine chance it could overtake IE and claim the number one spot. Only four years ago Firefox had a worldwide market share of only 3.6%, according to Net Applications.
